Forte Hospital

Cutting edge design, technology and furniture

Christchurch has recently celebrated the grand opening of Forte Health – a brand new short-stay surgical hospital with state-of-the-art technology housed within one of the country’s safest, ‘greenest’ buildings.

While the hospital has everything you’d expect from such a facility – four operating theatres, recovery, day stay, laboratory, radiology etc – there’s also a focus on innovative design and technology in an overall holistic approach to patient well-being.

Rest and recuperation is an important part of this well-being, and the furniture and interior design choices have been crucial to the overall hospital environment.

Fourteen Mercedes Eziout Recliner chairs were ordered for the consulting and recovery areas. Each chair was covered with ‘Silica‘ vinyl, a material that is soft and luxurious while still being able to withstand the rigours of hospital use. This fire-retardant and antimicrobial vinyl came through a double rub test of 385,000, three times that of a normal vinyl.

It’s not just the covering that was taken into consideration. The standard chassis for such a chair, while adequate, doesn’t provide the type of built-tough strength that comes in handy within a testing hospital environment. We manufactured our own heavy-duty chassis for the chair, providing significantly greater overall structural durability.

The response to the new hospital has been fantastic - Christchurch has certainly been fortified with the opening. We are proud to have our furniture in such an advanced forward-thinking facility.
