Kovacs is the talk of the town in Auckland
At the end of September we held an event in Auckland to mark the national debut of some exciting new pieces.
A great crowd of approximately 80 guests turned up for “Conversations On The Couch at the James Dunlop-Kovacs showroom for some insight into the design motivation and inspiration behind each piece.
Kovacs Sales Manager Samantha Hurd was at the forefront of planning and production, with a lot of work put in pre-event to ensure “the space was looking the best it’s ever been.”
“We collaborated closely with Celia from James Dunlop Textiles, and she helped us put together the settings – which looked stunning with the new pieces,” says Samm. “We had rugs from Artisan and various cushions and drapery to ensure the right look and the furniture was displayed in a number of different fabrics from James Dunlop.”
It was important that the event not just ‘show’, but ‘tell’ too. “We wanted this year to press home the influence of the products being ‘of’ New Zealand,” says Samantha. “That means not just the materials, but the heart and soul of the people who designed and make it all here.”
Renowned actor, director and design aficionado Oliver Driver presented the night, introducing each piece and interviewing Hildy, Steve, Sam and Simon from the Kovacs factory. Award-winning architect and design lecturer Julian Rennie was also on hand to present his thinking on the pieces, his valuable insight and industry authority “a huge asset on the night”.
The response from attendees was highly positive – not just with the quality but the quantity of feedback.
“After the presentations were given there was a number of interesting questions from the crowd and a wider conversation began,” says Samantha. “Even with seventy people on the night it was quite intimate. Everyone was comfortable and engaged with the work – they wanted to talk more.”
We’d like to thank all of those who put in the work behind the scenes making this talk such a success. Now we look forward to more of the same in the year ahead.
