Sitting down at Urbis Design Day
This year we took part in the Urbis Design Day. This long-standing event is a big two days of design goodness spanning multiple locations across Parnell, Mt Eden and Newmarket in Auckland.
With everything that’s been going on in the factory and out in the stores we have only now managed to catch our breath to sit down and collect our thoughts on everything. There’s a lot to collect too – the days were a bit of a whirlwind of inspiration and invigoration.
The design festival, hosted by Urbis Magazine, is a bit of a ‘who’s who’ of New Zealand artisans and creative brands – everyone from Methven to Mini, De’Longhi. We were part of the James Dunlop installation. Kovacs team member Samantha Hurd helped coordinate the two days.
“It was a huge effort by everyone involved,” said Samantha, “the showroom looked stunning and our pieces were shown in way that was both elegant and creative, ensuring they were placed in the best light possible.”
The first day of the event was a ‘professional’ day – one where industry insiders could get a head start on the crowds. The second was open to the general public – who poured through the installation in the hundreds. Across both days there was a consistently positive response to the work on display.
“Without question the Loft made a big impact,” said Samantha. “There were many expressions of surprise and delight as people sat down and realised how unbelievably comfortable it is.”
The event was very worthwhile for us. We not only got the Kovacs brand out there but also gained valuable feedback from those at the ‘coalface’ of design and development in New Zealand.
